Alyse Waldhorn-

Communications Team

Alyse, of Huntington Woods, is currently studying mechanical engineering after receiving a B.S. in environmental biology/microbiology from Michigan State University in 2012.  She joined the WSU EcoCAR 2 team because of her strong interest in sustainability and gaining hands-on experience in the field.  Outside of school, Alyse enjoys gardening and photography. She is currently assisting the communications team while transitioning into the mechanical aspect of EcoCAR 2.

Calvin Trescott -

Controls Team

Calvin Trescott is a 2012 graduate of Hartland High School in Harland Michigan, where he grew up. He is a junior in the Irvin D. Reid Honors College and studying electrical engineering. Trescott hopes to develop electrical architecture and controls for the electric vehicles of the future. Outside of school and EcoCAR 2, he enjoys backpacking and ping pong. 


Johnny Bolyea -

Mechanical Team

Johnny is a sophomore studying mechanical engineering. He grew up in Warren, Michigan. He graduated from Lincoln high school 2007. Johnny is an army veteran from Operation Iraqi Freedom 2009-2010. He is interested in all things automotive, aftermarket work is a favorite hobby. On his free time he enjoys shooting/marksmanship. In the future he hopes to work for one of the “big three” to take part in the technological innovation of tomorrow's vehicles

 

Xianfeng Yan -

Mechanical Team

Xianfeng came from Jiangxi Province, China at fall 2013. He is studying for his master degree of Mechanical Engineering after receiving a B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Hubei University of Automotive Technology, China. He could not refuse the attraction of EcoCAR because of his huge interest in automobile. Xianfeng hopes to become a good engineer in the automotive industry. He came to Detroit to chase his engineering dream, and is currently realizing it in EcoCAR.


Miriam Di Russo -

Controls Team

Miriam was born in Gaeta, a small sea town in Italy. She received both Bachelor and Master degree in Mechanical Engineering in L’Aquila, Italy. Miriam joined the EcoCAR team when she was an exchange student at Wayne State, and developed a big interest in the different aspects of the hybrid vehicles that led her to come back to Detroit after her graduation, and begin the PhD Program in Mechanical Engineering.
Her most enjoyable experience in EcoCAR is being involved in real automotive work while studying every side of it. Also, EcoCAR helps her develop team work skills.
Her hope for the future is to have the possibility to join the academic world, researching and teaching automotive-related subjects.

Jing Ba -

Mechanical Team

Jing is a graduate student in the electric-drive vehicle engineering program. He is from Hubei province, China, where he received his bachelor degree in vehicle engineering from Hubei University of Automotive Technology. Jing hopes to develop powertrain design and controls for the electric-drive vehicle of the future. After graduation, he also hopes to stay in Michigan and work for the automotive industry. Aside from EcoCAR, he enjoys playing basketball and going to church with friends.


Daniel Forthoffer -

Controls Team

Dan Forthoffer of Grosse Pointe Woods is a graduate of Romeo High School in Romeo, MI. He attended Northern Michigan University in Marquette, MI for his first undergraduate degree in automotive science, then Wayne State University for his Bachelors in Mechanical Engineering. Daniel is currently a student in the Alternative Energy Technologies program at WSU and hopes to receive his master’s degree in 2014 (MSAET). Dan has worked at Ford Motor Company since 2003 where he has held various positions in hybrid and fuel cell vehicle technology, most recently a Hydrogen Fuel Cell Design and Test Engineer. Dan enjoys fishing, building hot rods and flying airplanes in his spare time.
