Student Officers

Idan D. Kovent -

Project Manager

Idan is a second year masters student in Wayne State's Alternative Energy Technologies program. He has bachelors in aerospace engineering from the Technion, Israel. He is a Golden Key Society, SAE and AIAA member. His interest in EcoCAR 2 is in learning from others, making new friends, having fun, being challenged and becoming a better engineer. He brings experience from competitive environments, system engineering, mentoring, engineering practices and project managing.

Kevin L. Snyder -

Chief Engineer

Kevin is a graduate student in the electric vehicle engineering program. He has a bachelors in electrical engineering. He became interested in hybrid vehicles about four years ago and recognized the program as the best possible student activity in this area. He is interested in working on more than one area the competition. He brings with him 17 years of automotive experience, primarily in engine manufacturing plants.

Yuxia Liu -

Graduate Research


Yuxia is from Hunan province, China, where she received her maters degree in electrical engineering. Since moving to the U.S. she is working on a degree in electrical and computer engineering. She would like to be a controls engineer first, and then continue to assist in the developing better eco/hybrid electric cars.  Yuxia says that building friendships through EcoCAR 2 has provided her with more confidence than ever before. Aside from EcoCAR, she enjoys playing the violin, dancing, singing and Chinese Calligraphy.


Mike Lim -

Electrical Team Leader

Mike was born and raised in Metro Detroit. He holds a bachelor degree in electrical engineering from Kettering University and is a masters student studying electric-drive vehicle engineering. Mike hopes his time on the team will give him an understanding of the development of hybrid electric cars and lead to a career path that complements his lifelong interest in cars.


Katie O'Neal -

Communications Manager

Katie is a graduate of Woodhaven High School but resides in Clarkston, Michgan. She is in the last year of the public relations program at Wayne State. Katie enjoys spending time in the Motorcity and is a true Michigander.  She joined the WSU EcoCAR 2 team because, “it is a great opportunity for students to get hands on experience, prepare themselves for the real world and make lasting connections along the way.”


Franco Marinozzi-

Mechanical Team


Franco Marinozzi was born in Venezuela, but grew up in Montorio al Vomano, a small town in Italy. He received his bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering at University of L’Aquila, Italy.  Before furthering his education in the United States he worked for two years as a project engineer for a pressure vessel manufacturing company.  After graduation Franco plans to stay in Detroit and work for the automotive industry.  



Ashley Davis -

Business Manager

Born and raised in Detroit, Ashley Davis graduated from Lewis Cass Technical High School. She is currently pursuing her bachelor of science in business with a concentration in global supply chain management. Her personal interest includes cooking, boxing, and reading. Ashley is appreciative of the knowledge, experience, maturity, and skillset that this competition has awarded her. She hopes to be able to apply the knowledge and experience that she has acquired not only to her career, but also in life.
